Moving Space- Sports&Physio (Singapore) invited Mark Comerford to deliver an online lecture – “Psoas Major, Iliacus, the ‘hip flexors’ & the ‘snapping hip’ misinterpretation.” I am very honoured to be invited to share the content relating to Snapping Hip misinterpretation (this topic was an unexpectedly interesting discovery while I did the literature review on Iliacus Muscle) For those interested in the Psoas Major, you may search: “Sean Gibbons Psoas Major” or https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/super-psoas-major-key-muscle-joint-control-lumbar-spine-sean-gibbons/

【Movement Solutions for the Transition to High Threshold Training】Interpretation & Key Points Review

2024 Jan. 11-12 “Movement Solutions for Transitioning to High Threshold Training for Peak Performance” This was a course organised by the Taiwan Physical Therapy Association, which I interpreted for Mark Comerford before moving to Australia. This was the most challenging interpreting I have ever undertaken. I had to translate and demonstrate high threshold training and show how to train reaction agility by dodging a ball.😂 A few key points to review: ◼︎Weakness or loss of motion are not directly related to injury recurrence. Movement Control is the key!◼︎strong / weak ≠ control / uncontrolled◼︎Strength training & motor control training are distinctly different processes◼︎Central V.S. Peripheral fatigue◼︎Clinical Guideline for Recruitment Training ◼︎Muscle classification ◼︎What go wrong in the presence of pain an pathology ◼︎Graded motor control retraining◼︎Strategies to make the Transition from Low Threshold Motor Control Training to High Threshold Core Strengthening◼︎7 rehab stage for peak performance1. Control of direction2. Control of translation3. Control through range4. Control of extensibility5. Control during spinal & girdle ROM6. Control during overload training7. Control during high-speed movements ◼︎Make high threshold transition by adding…• Fatiguing resistance• Speed to the point of fatigue• Fatiguing unstable base training (proprioceptive challenge) ◼︎Assess for ‘strength’ deficiency – “weak link” ◼︎Control…

    【Visceral Manipulation 2 & 3】Translator & TA

I feel privileged to be invited by the Taiwan Physical Therapy Association to assist and translate the Visceral Manipulation 2 and 3 courses alongside Daniel Chang and Hou Bo-ren, taught by Pierre Vey. I also want to express my gratitude for the trust placed in me by all the students. Pierre Vey is my third instructor in Visceral Manipulation (VM), and each teacher brings their own distinctive teaching style and clinical techniques. Pierre delivers the course content through precise anatomical and biomechanical analysis, sharing the principles of assessment and treatment in Visceral Manipulation, as well as elaborating on the intricate relationships between visceral fascia and various systems. Pierre’s perspective on viscera and bodily movements aligns with my own belief that “compensation is not the issue, but rather being trapped in one compensation could pose a problem. The body should have the freedom to choose.” Pierre Vey’s clinical tips:“Approach patients with a perceptive mind and a knowledgeable brain.” I am so glad I got the chance to meet Erin, the Australian teacher who instructs CST (CranioSacral Therapy), and also delighted to have the opportunity to make some new friends during the courses.Learning always fills me with vitality! ■ Appointment / Collaboration…

    【Physiotherapy for Performing Artists Lecture】

    by 湯士萱 Suzanne Tang 2023-05-02

I’m thrilled to have been invited once again to give a lecture on “Emerging Physiotherapy – Physiotherapy for Performing Artists” and share my experiences in supporting performing artists with undergraduate and graduate students at the Department of Physical Therapy and Assistive Technology in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. We delved into discussions about musicians, dancers, rhythmic gymnasts, actors, and more, all of whom can benefit greatly from physiotherapy. Every performing art form possesses its own unique and remarkable aspects that demand careful consideration in the realm of physiotherapy. And truth be told, I still have so much to learn. What I genuinely want to convey to the students are the methods of self-learning and self-improvement, empowering them to enhance their professional skills in the realm of performing arts physiotherapy. Two hours just flew by, and there are so many topics I would love to share. Maybe next time, we should have a full-day!
